FAQs
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions on boarding pets.
How early should I book my reservation?
Bradford Hills Pet Hotel books up early, especially for summer, holidays, and weekends. Make sure you book a reservation as soon as you think you need one, because it is better to have one in place and not need it later, than to need a reservation and not be able to book it at all. However, if you call and we do not have space available, we will recommend placing you on a wait list. As soon as another guest cancels the Pet Hotel staff goes immediately to the wait list.
What if my pet has never boarded before?
Although many pets adapt to the pet hotel environment without a problem, some may need to gradually experience the boarding environment prior to an actual stay. Pets can get nervous when they are away from home and are around new people and other pets. Dogs and cats are creatures of habit, and boarding should be introduced as an exciting and enjoyable activity. The Bradford Hills Pet Hotel recommends a daycare session for pets who:
- have never boarded before
- are older
- are on medications
- were recently adopted
- have special needs
- recently moved to the area
Daycare allows a pet to spend a day with us, and get used to the Pet Hotel's staff, sounds, smells, sites, and — most importantly — to see that you will be back to get them. Then, when it's time to board, your pet will be excited, confident, and relaxed!
What do I need to bring with my pet?
All you need to bring is a collar and leash, or carrier, and their food if you desire. Bradford Hills Pet Hotel will provide comfortable linens, water and food dishes, and some washable toys. We recommend that you bring your pet's food from home to ensure the best possible experience. With the environment change, keeping the same food is a lot easier on your pet's digestive system.
You can also bring some comforts from home, such as one of your pet's favorite toys, a medium-sized blanket or bed, treats, or even a small crate. We ask that the items that you bring be considered safe and have your name written on them. We can also write your name on then if you prefer.
The only other items that may be required are vaccination certificates, doctor's notes, or prescribed medications including dosages and times given.
What if my pet gets sick while in your care?
If a pet becomes sick during its stay at the Pet Hotel, the staff is trained to assess the pet's condition. If the staff deems the pet's medical condition as urgent, a staff member will immediately seek veterinary assistance and contact the pet owner. If medical concerns are less serious, but should be addressed, a staff member will first contact the pet owner for an opinion of the situation, as well as for prior approval of any medical actions recommended by the Pet Hotel.
One of the advantages of the Pet Hotel is that our guests are only several feet away from Bradford Hills Veterinary Hospital. The Pet Hotel staff will accompany your pet and stay with them while they're being seen by the vets at Bradford Hills Veterinary Hospital.
Can my pet have a vet appointment scheduled while boarding?
The Pet Hotel is more than happy to assist you in your pet's veterinary care, however, there are some veterinary services that cannot be scheduled during a stay such as vaccinations, surgery, chemotherapy, and dental appointments.
We are able to schedule minor appointments such as follow-up exams, anal glands expression, medication refills, blood testing, ear cleanings, and stool sample checks. Check with a Pet Hotel staff member prior to scheduling an appointment.
